Full-Day Primary Program

Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM

The primary classroom is a welcoming, stimulating, and organized space designed to meet a child's individual needs. Exposure to a rich variety of experiences is a vital part of the curriculum. The curriculum consists of Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, and Language. Cultural subjects are integrated into the curriculum. The day is a balance of independent work, group work, and presentations (lessons). Presentations are made individually or in small groups by the teacher. Using methods and materials developed by Dr. Montessori, the Directress provides a sequence of tasks sufficiently challenging and interesting to engage the child.

All primary students are in a mixed-age class and are exposed to special school-wide events such as concerts, and field trips.

Children must be fully toilet trained and are not permitted to wear diapers or pull-ups to school. Each student receives weekly instruction in art appreciation, and movement education.

Primary students follow the Beddow School dress code and may attend half-day or full-day classes, all run five days a week. Children under the age of 5 and who have not yet participated in the full-day primary program, will have a rest time of at least 45 minutes up to 1 ½ hour each day beginning at 12:45 pm.

The rest of the students have both morning and afternoon sessions. All children are provided a healthy snack each day, but bring their own lunch and fresh fruit/vegetable snacks from home. These children may purchase special school lunches on designated days. The 5-year-old full-day Primary student does not have nap time and goes out for recess twice.
